Cassie Asselta’s RBI-single in the seventh inning gave Sachem East a 4-3 victory over West Islip in the first round of the Suffolk County Class AA softball playoffs Monday afternoon.
No. 10 Sachem East (15-6) advances to the next round to play second-seeded Commack on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Marissa Wilson hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give East an early lead. She went 3-for-4.
Katie Tibbets, who went 2-for-4, hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Marissa Smith, who received the win for East on the mound, pitched seven innings and struck out 11 Lions hitters.
North ousted by Hauppauge
No. 13 Sachem North lost to fourth-seeded Hauppauge, 8-2.
Rebecca Amadeo received the loss for Sachem North.
