Sachem North’s Katie Michta was named a finalist for the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Program, according to Sachem North track and field coach Alex Young.

Finalists strive to impact sport on three levels by working to improve themselves, their teammates and their sport as a whole, according to a release from the organization.

PCA named finalists in their nine regions in the national competition for a Triple Impact scholarship. Michta is one of 20 finalists in the NY Metropolitan region which includes NYC and other counties in NY, NJ, CT and PA.

Triple Impact scholarship awards are based on student essays about how they represent what Positive Coaching Alliance calls a “Triple Impact Competitor,” or an athlete that focuses on personal mastery of their sport, makes their teammates better through their leadership skills, and makes their sport better by “honoring the game.”

Scholarship winners will be announced in the fall.
