Joe Kirchner, a Sachem alum and Captain on the football team at Cortland State, was named the NJAC and the ECAC Div. III Southeast Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in a 26-15 win over William Patterson last weekend.
Kirchner recorded nine tackles, including 3.5 of Cortland’s eight sacks in the game, according to a release from the school.
One sack lead to a fumble that Cortland recovered at its own 35-yard line early in the fourth quarter, clinging to a 20-15 lead.
Cortland (1-1, 1-0 NJAC) will play at St. John Fisher in a non-league game on Saturday.
