Inside the Arrows: Week 3, 2013

Sachem actual football

A weekly historical look at the football programs at Sachem East and Sachem North.

Week 3 Scores

  • Northport 20, Sachem East 0
  • Sachem North 49, Longwood 32

Sachem East

  • Sachem East has started a season 0-3 four times in its 10-year history.
  • Sachem East has lost four of its last five games dating back to the 2012 season.
  • The 13 points scored for Sachem East are the second fewest to start a season through three games. Fewest is 7 points in 2008. Note: the fewest points the Arrows have scored in a complete season is 65 in 2010.
  • Sachem East is 2-4 all-time against Northport.
  • Sachem East is 3-7 all-time in Week 3 games.
  • Sachem East has now been shutout 12 times in its history.

Sachem North

  • NYS Ranking: No. 4 large school, ranked by NYSSWA
  • Sachem has started a season 3-0 for the 16th time in program history.
  • The Flaming Arrows are 18-12 all-time against Longwood and have outscored the Lions, 675-511.
  • In Week 3 games, Sachem is 33-18-3.
  • The victory against Longwood was the 285th win in Sachem’s 52-year history. With 15 more victories, Sachem will be one of only a handful of programs in Suffolk County to reach the 300-win mark.
  • The 49 points scored against Longwood are the 12th highest scored in a game for the Flaming Arrows. Sachem has only scored 49-plus points in a game 14 times in its history.
  • The 81 combined points from its Week 3 game are the fourth highest in Sachem history, and most combined while playing the Lions.
  • With 535 yards of total offense, Sachem has now recorded 1,491 yards through three games, the most in its program’s history. The same can be said for its 140 points scored. Let’s not play the history game just yet with Suffolk County and Long Island scoring records (the LI record for points in a season is 581 set last year by Lawrence).
  • With his seventh rushing touchdown of the season last weekend, Trent Crossan passed Jerry Figgiani on Sachem’s career rushing TD list. Figgiani had 21, and Crossan now has 22. The record is 50 set by his brother Dalton in 2010-2011.
  • With 25 carries for 245 yards, Kevin Bragaglia has a 9.8 yards per carry average this season. That’s midlevel on the all-time single-season list at Sachem. Players like Dalton Crossan, Jesse Scanna, Angelo Armine and Davon Lawrence all had single-season averages of 10-yards or higher from 2009-2011.
  • Sachem North QB Anthony Service threw and ran for his first varsity touchdowns against Longwood. Service was also the first Sachem QB to throw for 100-plus yards in a game since 2008 when Craig Geoghan did it during Week 8. Geoghan, as you know, is the most prolific passer in Sachem’s history.
  • Kickerman: Bryan Morris is now 18-for-18 this season on extra-points. He has 138 career extra points, a Long Island record. He needs 40 to break the New York State mark of 177 set by Anthony McDonald-Caporiccio of Elmira-Notre Dame. Morris now has 150 kicking points, only 32 away from breaking the Long Island mark of 181 and 54 away from the state mark.
  • Young pups: Nick Licostie and Chris Fasano are just the eighth and ninth freshmen, respectively, to ever play varsity football at Sachem. Six of the nine players were on the roster from 2010-current day.
  • The 1,000-yard club:
  • ———> Malik Pierre ranks 12th all-time at Sachem with 1,641 yards
  • ———> Trent Crossan ranks 15th all-time at Sachem with 1,526 yards
  • ———> Anthony Ross has 871 yards, needs 129 to become 21st player to rush for 1,000-yards
  • ———> Kevin Bragaglia has 762 yards, needs 238 to become 21st player to rush for 1,000-yards
  • On another historical note, Sachem will host a 30th anniversary celebration of its 1983 Suffolk County Championship team on Friday night. Dozens of alumni should be on hand for a reunion of one of the program’s finest teams.
