One of the most dominant two-sport athletes to go through Sachem in recent history, Michael Andreassi left a lasting impression as a competitor and leader during his time with the Flaming Arrows. He’s continued the trend at Stony Brook University where he was named a captain for the men’s lacrosse team this week by head coach Jim Nagle.

Andreassi will be a co-captain along with fellow Long Island native and Bay Shore product Lucas Rock.

“More than anything, Mike and Lucas embody our three C’s of leadership – Competence, Compassion and Courage,” Nagle said in a statement. “As for Mike, he’s always been a team-first guy. He’s a quality kid who balances academics and athletics the right way.”

Entering his junior season, Andreassi has played in 30 games at Stony Brook and has recorded 18 goals and 10 assists at midfield. He scored a season-best 14 goals, including two goals against Maryland and Virginia, as a sophomore. Andreassi has nine multi-point games.

Andreassi led Sachem lacrosse in scoring from 2008-2010 and was a leading rusher and tackler on the football team as an upperclassmen as well. He was a captain for both Sachem football and lacrosse.

Stony Brook opens the 2014 season on February 14 against Marist.
