Elise Ramirez is the first post-split Sachem North harrier to compete at the NYS XC Championship Meet. Ramirez had a strong race, using an aggressive start to mix it up with a high-powered field.
She hit the halfway point in the race at the front of a pack of runners in pursuit of an equally large pack less than ten seconds ahead of Elise and a dozen runners.
Ramirez continued her pursuit of this pack over the next mile. The race stretched out a by the time she left Queensbury High School’s trails.
Along with two other runners from her pack, they were mixed in with many of the runners she had been chasing. She continued her pursuit of rival runners over the last 600 meters of her race.
A furious finish allowed Ramirez to edge a final rival at the finish line. HerR time of 19:29 was her fastest non-Brown University XC meet 5K of her career.
Ramirez and five of her teammates will compete at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional XC Championship Meet on November 30.
