The Sachem East Tri-M Music Honor Society held its annual Practice-A-Thon recently and raised $1,335 for Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank, according to Sachem East Orchestra Director Dorie Downs. The donation will help feed over 1,500 Long Islanders this holiday season.
More than 50 Music Honor Society members committed to practicing on their instrument for a week. Each student gathered sponsors for that practice time and then collected money to be donated to Long Island Cares, Downs said.
“This is the third year we’ve done this activity, and to know that we’re feeding over 1500 of our neighbors will only help to inspire next year’s members to practice even more,” added Downs.
