Morris makes history, breaks LI scoring mark

Bryan Morris has had a historic season.
Bryan Morris has had a historic season.

In all the hoopla that comes with winning a championship, it’s easy to lose track of the meaning of extra points. Not in Sachem, however, and not when Bryan Morris is kicking.

Sachem’s senior leg booted career point No. 182 on the fourth extra point he converted during Sunday’s championship victory over William Floyd. Aside from the score giving Sachem ample breathing room in the game, it also gave Morris the Long Island record for career points earned by a kicker.

Morris passed East Islip alum Sean Moller, who has 181, and now ranks fourth all-time in New York State. Mike Chrystie’s mark of 203 at Oxford High is slightly out of reach with just one more game left in Morris’ career.

During Week 1 of the 2013 season against Sachem East, Morris broke the record for most career extra points on Long Island, also passing Moller on that mark. He now as 167 and ranks No. 2 in state history behind Elmira Notre Dame’s Anthony McDonald-Caporiccio.
