Hoops notes: Doherty scores career-high 38, North girls now 4-0

The winter season is in full swing on Long Island. Here’s an early look at the hoops action that has occurred so far this December in Sachem …

Sachem East Girls (2-1 overall): Katie Doherty led the Arrows with a career-high 38 points in Sachem East’s league-opener, a 69-59 victory over Longwood. Earlier this month, Sachem East beat Copiague, 73-46, and had four girls score in double-digits, and they lost by 30 to Long Island powerhouse, Long Island Lutheran. Next up, Commack will travel to Sachem East on Thursday, December 19.

Sachem North Girls (4-0 overall): The Sachem North girls hoops team is 4-0. They beat Bellport, 55-40, on Saturday for their latest victory. Shayla Cosgrove had 17 points and Kassidy Hallum scored 18.The Sachem North girls will travel to Whitman on Tuesday.

Sachem East Boys (1-2 overall): After a big opening-season victory over rival Sachem North, the Arrows lost to Longwood, 66-38. They also dropped a game to Connetquot following the North win. Jesse Condon has hit at least three three-point baskets in every game this season. Next up, Sachem East will travel to Commack on Thursday, December 19.

Sachem North Boys (0-3 overall): Sachem North has dropped games to Sachem East, William Floyd and Bay Shore to open the 2013 campaign. The Flaming Arrows host Whitman on Tuesday, December 17.
