The Sachem East girls basketball team opened the playoffs with a statement win over Bay Shore Friday evening.
The third-seeded Arrows beat No. 14 Bay Shore, 72-36, in the first round of the Suffolk County Class AA postseason.
Katie Doherty led all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Sachem East (13-6) advances to the quarterfinals against No. 6 Copiague on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. The game will be in the gym at Sachem East.
East had a strong outing on the boards. Aside from Doherty’s rebounds, Danielle Cosgrove had nine and Taylor Whiffen and Kathleen Everson each had eight.
Jordan Pamlanye had 13 points and Everson also scored 10 points in the victory.
