Make that a five-peat. Maria Michta captured her fifth straight 3,000-meter racewalk Indoor National U.S. Track & Field Championship on Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M.
Michta, who graduated from Sachem in 2004, finished with a time of 12:47.79. She was ahead of second place finisher Miranda Melville (12:59.75) by a little more than 12 seconds.
“Thanks for the continued support everyone,” Michta tweeted after the race, “happy to make Long Island, Walk USA, and Sachem Proud!”
This year Michta hit a personal best at Indoor Nationals, beating her previous best of 13:07.07 from last year.
Michta, Sachem’s only alum to compete in the Olympics, clinched a spot to represent USA at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Spoto, Poland in March.
