The following story was written by Brooke Potvin, Seventh Grader at Sagamore Middle School …

My mom has a blog and on February 25, 2013 she wrote an article about Yahoo’s recent ban on telecommuting. My mom got an email from the producer of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams the day after she published it to see if would like to answer a few questions regarding the Yahoo’s ban on telecommuting. My mom responded by calling them and after answering a few questions, they said they may be in touch.

On February 26, 2013 I was riding on the bus going home when I texted my mom to ask her if I could get off the bus with my neighbor. She should that I had to go straight home, but normally I was allowed to so I asked why. My mom responded by saying how the news was at our house filming. I then got excited and could not wait to get home. As soon as the bus pulled to the bus stop right across the street from my house I saw the huge satellite truck in front of my house. Automatically I got a million texts from everyone on the bus who saw the truck to ask why it was at my house.

I walked into my house and saw the camera man talking to my mom in the dining room. My mom then explained to me that she had gotten a call earlier that day saying that they would have a film crew at my house to interview her. So by the time I was home, they had already interviewed her but they wanted more clips with me, my mom, and my sisters.

While my sisters were still at school they got two clips with just me and my mom. Then, they filmed me and my mom getting my sisters off the bus and walking home. Next, they filmed us doing our homework and my mom working on her computer. After a few more short clips, the film crew had all of the film they needed, so they packed up their equipment and left.

Then on February 27, 2013 at 8:09 am, it aired on the Today Show. I was so excited to see that my family and I were on national and local television all across the country. Later that week my cousins all the way in Virginia saw it on their local news. It also aired the next Sunday, March 3rd on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.

Overall this was an awesome experience and I loved every minute of it.
