At Sachem East High School, a new 9/11 memorial was unveiled at a ceremony on September 15, 2013. The memorial consists of tributes to both the Pentagon and the Twin Towers. The memorial stands in front of the school.

The concept of the memorial was designed by Keith Connolly, a technology teacher at Sachem East who has worked on the design of this memorial with the freshmen class for multiple years.

“With this memorial, we want to honor those we lost, especially in the Sachem community, but it’s also important to celebrate the lives of those who are still with us and continue to keep us safe,” said Jaimie Sison, an advisor for this project.

Sachem East’s principal, Lou Antonetti stated, “The memorial was built to respect the memories of those lost.”

This memorial is a lovely way to show respect toward the heroes that were involved on 9/11. It really shows what a caring and bright community Sachem is. The memorial is an amazing way to honor the victims and survivors of this terrible tragedy. You should take the opportunity to go and see this stunning memorial and remember those we lost and those who are the survivors of September 11, 2001.
