Sachem East’s Katie Doherty was named the Suffolk County Girls Basketball Player of the Year last week.
The senior guard, who reached the 1,000-points plateau for her career earlier this season, was a leader for Sachem East this year on and off the court and one of the top girls hoops players in the tri-state.
Along with teammate and fellow senior Kathleen Everson, Doherty lead Sachem East to a Suffolk County championship after the Arrows unseated top seed North Babylon at SUNY Farmingdale.
The 5-9 Doherty, who played her AAU ball with the Long Island Lightening, is headed to Holy Cross to play college hoops.
