Kinkaid out of Calder Cup, future is bright

That’s another season of professional hockey in the books for Sachem East alum Keith Kinkaid. It’s safe to say he’s one of the top young goaltenders in the world and has a promising future ahead in the NHL.

His statistics were in line with the best goalies of the American Hockey League after finishing the regular season with the Albany Devils and recording a 24-13-5 record, 2.29 goals against average (GAA) and .912 save percentage. He ranks in the top five in the league in all three of those categories.

Kinkaid, who made his NHL debut on March 5, 2013 with the New Jersey Devils, started every playoff game for Albany in the Calder Cup Playoffs. He was 1-3 with a 2.26 GAA and .932 save percentage in the post-season.

Albany lost the Eastern Conference quarterfinal bout to the St. John’s IceCaps, the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets.

Devils legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur is an unrestricted free agent and has expressed a desire to continue his career either with the Devils or another team. The Devils also have Cory Schneider, another top netminder.
