Well, that didn’t take long. Former Sachem coach Matt Brisson is the new head girls basketball coach at McGann-Mercy High School in Riverhead, N.Y., according to a story in the Riverhead News Review.
Brisson, who retired from teaching and coaching in Sachem following the 2013-2014 school year this month, will bring his now legendary coaching game to the East End closer to where he resides.
Most recently the Suffolk County Girls Basketball Coach of the Year in 2014, Brisson compiled a 218-48 career record at Sachem, spanning more than a decade between Sachem High School, pre-split, and Sachem East.
Under Brisson’s tenure, Sachem East became a local power, competiting for county and island titles almost every year since the school’s inaugural season in 2004-2005.
McGann-Mercy made the playoffs last season after going 0-18 the year before.
