The Hispanic Games is the only Armory meet that features the racewalk until Indoor Nationals in early March. Sachem’s national class squad was well represented in both Open and Frosh-Soph fields yesterday. Kaitlin Martin – currently ranked No. 4 in NYS – placed second (7:19.32) in the Open 1500 m. racewalk. Emily Leath (7:59.05) continued her breakout season, Denise Barrera (8:48.52) had a career-best race and Meghan Tozza (8:59.90) had a strong effort.

All Frosh-Soph race athletes had season-bests today. Leanne Curaro (8:33.30) led the squad with a fourth place finish. Medal efforts were turned in by eighth place finisher Ariana Cagnina (8:49.74) and ninth place finisher Rebecca Block (8:59.82). Casey Weilbacher (9:06.61) completed the 4 for 4 season-best all-rookie Frosh-Soph day with her eleventh place effort.

Elise Ramirez continued her outstanding senior year by running the sixth fastest indoor mile (5:18.76) ever by a Sachem North athlete. She ran a strong throughout the race with a 37.5 second first lap and ran a blistering 36.2 second final lap to run a career-best time and put her name in contention for a bid to next week’s Stanner Games invitational mile.

Sachem changed the order of its 4×200 relay for today’s meet. Leah Blackall was moved to the leadoff spot and Alyssa Leto to anchor. Kelly Gardner and Nikki Fogarty would handle the middle leg exchanges. Results of the revamped relay was immediate as the squad ran the fourth fastest time ever (1:45.69) by a Sachem squad. The time was fastest ever run in January for Sachem. Pole vaulter Rachel Heymach matched her career-best with her 9’ 0” vault.

Swift sophomore Sam Sommers sprinted to the #9 spot on the Sachem North 55 m. All-Time list with her 7.70 dash. Kaitlyn Licata (5:49.55) and Amanda Carlson (5:52.63) joined the mile All-Time list with #20 and #24 times respectively. Sachem results today shows that the North Flaming Arrows are in good mid-season form. Sachem splits its team next weekend with the Stanner Games (Armory) on Saturday and the Jim Howard Meet (Suffolk West) on Sunday.
