The Transition Team at Sachem High School North consists of job coaches; Ms. Tina Foster, Ms. Jean Sachko and Transition Liaison, Ms. Donna Chorzepa. Together, they have been very busy preparing opportunities for our students to be able to live, learn and earn within our community.

One of their community based trips is to the Home Depot in Patchogue. Ms. Santina Morales, Home Depot employee, partners with our job coaches and works each week with our students at the job site. Ms. Foster had expressed to Ms. Morales some of the challenges that our autistic population were experiencing in their home school building.

Some students were struggling with the auditory stimulus that naturally presents itself in a large school building such as Sachem High School. In response, Ms. Morales arranged for The Home Depot to donate six pairs of hearing protectors for our students.

In addition to the hearing protectors, she also included a special individual gift for each child. These hearing protectors will give students the availability to block out the over stimulating noises when needed.

The Transition Team is incredibly thankful to have a partnership with an organization that understands and responds to the needs of our students. They would like to say a special thank you to Ms. Morales for demonstrating dedication, compassion and understanding while working with our students.

The life lessons and work experience that you are providing the students of Sachem North is invaluable.
