Sachem East wins League II Championship

The Sachem East girls swimming and diving team captured a League II championship this week in a meet at home.

This marks the first league title in school history for swimming and diving.

image (2)Sachem East was undefeated in league play this season going 5-0 and 8-3 overall.

  • 200 Free Relay: Sachem East wins 1:44.95; Alice Tsai, Kianna Papele, Jessica Freund, Ariel Tsai
  • 400 Free relay: Sachem East wins 4:02.40; Aileen Baker, Alyssa Mei, Natalie Tohill, Danielle Azralon
  • Sachem East Sophomore Jessica Freund won the 200 IM 2:13.24 and 100 Fly :58.58 (new school record in the fly and top time in Suffolk county so far)
  • Sachem East Senior Kianna Papele won the 100 Free :55.97
  • Sachem North senior Marisa Tutone won the 50 free :25.45 and 100 back 1:03.67
  • Lindenhurst Senior Gianna Cornelia won Diving 282.95

“This was a great team victory and something these girls set out to do back in May,” said Sachem coach Kathleen Dugan. “As a coach I could not be prouder because this was well deserved.”

Next Saturday is the Suffolk County Championship meet at Suffolk Community College Brentwood and then the New York State meet is in Ithaca on November 20-21.

As of now Sachem East has sophomore Jessica Freund attending the state meet in the 100 fly and hope for more after next weekend.
