Sachem will honor its 1995-1996 Suffolk County championship boys basketball team during a ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
That team is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its historic season. Sachem has not won a boys basketball county title since.
On what has become known as “Program Day” for the basketball programs in Sachem, the school district will host multiple games featuring all Sachem schools from the middle school up to the varsity level. Sachem North will host Sachem East in a varsity contest at 2 p.m.
During the varsity contest, Sachem’s last boys county championship squad will be honored. There are 13 former players, as well as former coaches Steve Rich and Bill Marano, expected to attend.
