Sachem Alum Writes Book About Mental Illness

Alum writes memoir about coping with mental illness

Nicole Nagy, an alumnus of Sachem North, has penned a new book about coping with mental illness.

Nagy, who is studying for her master’s degree in social work at Stony Brook University, wrote a memoir titled “Creative Mind: A Diary of Teenage Mental Illness,” which is now available on Amazon.

She said her inspiration for writing this book is her passion is to help others.

“I have a compelling story to tell, and I know I can help many people struggling with mental illness,” she said. “My goal is to reach as many people as I can to make it aware to everyone that even when people are dealt with difficult obstacles we can still achieve our goals.”

Nagy’s journal entries demonstrate how a creative mind can often amplify the strong emotional reactions and extreme thinking of mental illness.

“I never planned on publishing a book let alone write one,” she said. “I never thought I was capable of it. At the beginning of my struggles, the only way I could understand my own thoughts was by writing everything down. For every obstacle I faced, I challenged it head on and never looked back. I have accomplished so much, and I am 24.”
