Doug Smith Wins New York State Assembly Special Election

Smith is latest Sachem alum to win political election

Doug Smith has official won the special election for the 5th Assembly District, filling the vacancy left by former GOP Assemb. Al Graf.

Smith, a Sachem alum, had previously served as the chief of staff of Graf, and beat Democrat Deb Slinkosky, a former Sachem Schools Board of Education trustee, with a vote of 63 to 37 percent.

He is the first Sachem alum since Steve Levy, who rose to prominence as the Suffolk County Executive, to serve in the Assembly.
