Sachem North Wins LIC, Eyes State Championship

Flaming Arrows clinch first Long Island championship since 2015, aim for state title

They’re not done yet, but they’re certainly enjoying every second of this ride. The Sachem North boy’s volleyball team achieved its latest milestone, winning a Division I Long Island championship on Saturday, November 10 after defeating Nassau’s Plainview-Old Bethpage, 25-17, 25-11, 25-22.

“I’m just really proud of our guys,” Sachem coach Matt Rivera told Newsday after the match. “It’s a great feeling every time we set out to do something and we’re able to see our guys win their final game on Long Island. This group in particular worked so hard since the season started. Every day just grinding it out. For them to achieve their goal of winning a Long Island championship, and the way they did, I’m just really happy for them.”

Sachem, now 18-0 on the season, turns its attention to the New York State tournament on Saturday, November 17 in Albany.
