Sachem’s Danielle Cosgrove Takes Leave of Absence from Notre Dame Basketball

Sachem alum Danielle Cosgrove, a junior on the women’s basketball team at Notre Dame, said via Twitter she is taking a leave of absence from the team to deal with her mental health.

“There is nothing more important than mental health, and I have been struggling with mine for quite some time,” she said. “After talking it over with my family, teammates and coaching staff, I have decided that I will be taking a leave of absence until the second semester. During this time away focused on my wellbeing, I am hopeful on getting myself to a place to be a healthier person.”

Cosgrove played in all 31 games for the Irish last season. She averaged 13 minutes and 2.8 points per game.

“I remain committed to my teammates and I’m excited to support them as they prepare for the upcoming season,” she also wrote. “To my Notre Dame family, I am forever grateful for your endless support on this journey and I love you all so much!”

She is one of only nine players in Sachem history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
