In March 2020 Sachem North football announced a new helmet design for the first time in 10 years, and the most significant changes in almost half a century. There will be one more addition to the lid as they take the field next week.
The Flaming Arrows have added a “BB” helmet sticker to the back of the helmet in honor of longtime coach Bill Batewell, who passed away recently.
Batewell was a JV football coach in Sachem for 36 years, while also serving as Sachem’s varsity baseball coach.
“Bill Batewell was a significant part of the Sachem football program, helping to mold players who embodied the Sachem spirit,” said Sachem football coach Dave Caputo. “His legacy lives on in our community and we will honor him this season as a sign of respect for his selfless and impactful career.”
This spring the helmets will feature the arrowhead logo on one side and uniform numbers on the other. These numbers are appropriately called “Alabama numbers” since the Crimson have been known to sport this style for decades.
