During this year’s Sachem football rivalry game, winners of the Fred Kemp Award were announced. Sachem East’s Matt Toral and Sachem North’s John Hall earned the honor.
Kemp was on the 1986 Rutgers Trophy team and played college football at C.W. Post. His life was taken suddenly in the fall of 1989 in an automobile accident.
The winners of this award reflect Kemp’s unwavering passion and commitment to football at Sachem. A leader who was loved by his coaches and adored by his teammates, Kemp ate, drank and slept Sachem football which embodies the spirit of this award in his memory.
Kemp’s former teammates Bob Kohn, Gary Comstock and Paul Englehardt presented the honor and joined Sachem North coach Dave Caputo and Sachem East coach Phil Torregrosa, as well as Hall and Toral on field before the game. All men are former Sachem players and alumni.
