Matt “Dezy” DiStefano and Karen Ferguson-Dayes are the latest Sachem alumni to earn induction to the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame. They were inducted during a virtual event on May 12.
DiStefano was a Sachem teacher and coach who left his mark by founding the Dezy Strong Foundation during the last year of his life.
Ferguson-Dayes is the head women’s soccer coach at the University of Louisville and was an All-American at Sachem and UConn before playing on the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team.
Both are inductees of the Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame.
There are now 26 inductees of the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, who attended or coached at Sachem.
Sachem alum Chris R. Vaccaro, the publisher of Sachem Report, is also the executive director of the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame. Hall of famers are nominated and selected by a committee.
