If you happened to turn on the Borussia Mönchengladbach match on ESPN+ on Monday afternoon you may have recognized a familiar name and face. Sachem alum and Lake Grove native Joe Scally made his debut with the Bundesliga squad.
Scally, who was acquired by Gladbach late last year from NYCFC in the MLS and joined the German team in January, was strong against Kaiserslautern in a 1-0 first round German Cup victory.
“Happy to make my debut,” Scally wrote on Instagram. “Onto the next round👊👊”
Gladbach shared images of Scally on their Instagram feed, including an image of his kit in the locker room (visible on the screen grabs above).
They play again in the next round of the German Cup against powerhouse Bayern Munich on Friday, August 13 at 2:30 p.m.
