New Stranger Safety Awareness Book Written by Sachem Trio

A trio from the Sachem Community teamed together on a new book project meant to shed light on stranger safety awareness.

“No Thanks, I’ll Walk,” is a product of The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation and its many years of work to educate children, empower parents and guardians and make a difference. A portion of the book proceeds will benefit the foundation and is available on Amazon.

Written by Matthew J. Barbis and Patrick M. Chierichella along with Chris R. Vaccaro, the book takes lessons from the foundation and strings them in an easy-to-follow narrative with facts and examples.

Barbis and Vaccaro are Sachem alumni and Chierichella is a former longtime Sachem teacher. All three live in the Sachem community. Vaccaro and Barbis are also the co-founders of the Sachem Alumni Association.

Barbis started the foundation following the abduction and death of his 11-year-old cousin Carlie Brucia in Sarasota, Florida in 2004. The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation’s goal is to reduce the number of child abductions in the U.S. by educating and empowering young minds with the knowledge necessary to avoid abduction. Utilizing puppets and a formalized educational curriculum, the foundation provides elementary-aged children with the Stranger Safety Awareness Program, free of charge.

In this book, you will learn key characteristics about yourself, strangers, the value of trust, developing awareness, avoiding con jobs, handling close encounters, dealing with emergency support, and much more.

The audience for this book is intended to be parents and guardians but written in a tone and ease that can appeal to children if you need to use the text as a direct resource to teach and train them on the helpful tactics of stranger safety awareness.
