Sachem Alum Steven McClernon Ordained as Catholic Priest

Sachem alum Fr. Steven McClernon was ordained a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Rockville Centre on Saturday, June 10 at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre by Bishop John Barres.

Fr. McClernon, who graduated from Sachem North in 2010, celebrated his first Mass at his home parish, Good Shepherd Church in Holbrook on Sunday, June 11.

He was first struck with the idea of becoming a priest as a junior at Sachem North.

“Over the past seven years of studying and praying, I have absolutely enjoyed serving the people of Long Island; being with them to celebrate joyful moments, and being by their side during troubling times,” he said. “It is a huge honor and privilege to bring people to God and show them His unending love.”

The Diocese of Rockville Centre serves Catholics in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Fr. Steven will be stationed to three parishes on Long Beach.

He is the second ordained Catholic priest to graduate from Sachem following Fr. Patrick Riegger, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist in Center Moriches.
