With a trophy on the line, championship alumni on the sidelines and America’s Tenor providing the soundtrack, Sachem North delivered a performance worthy of the occasion.
The Arrows defeated longtime rival William Floyd, 35-13, in the National Football Foundation Kickoff Classic on Friday night, improving to 2-0 in a highly anticipated Week 2 matchup filled with pomp and circumstance.
Senior quarterback Luke LaRocca completed 13 of 15 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, adding 85 rushing yards and another score to lead Sachem’s offense.
Lucas Bouchard led all receivers with three catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 1-yard run.
Sachem’s defense was equally impressive. Safety Joe Gambardella recorded three tackles for a loss and an interception, earning defensive player of the game honors.
Dwayne Dumpson and Danny Ferrizz each contributed a sack and a tackle for a loss. Niko Valenza added two sacks, and Shaun Marx recovered a fumble as the Arrows kept Floyd in check.
The celebration extended beyond the game. America’s Tenor and Sachem alumnus Christopher Macchio performed the national anthem before kickoff, then returned at halftime to sing “God Bless America” and “New York, New York.”
Sachem also welcomed back its 1986 football team to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its Suffolk County championship and Rutgers Trophy season. The tribute connected generations of Sachem football on a night when the current Arrows added another memorable victory to the program’s history.
Sachem North travels to Whitman on Friday night for Week 3.
