Sachem East senior distance runner Tom Ruppel has committed to run at New York Institute of Technology, which has a Division II cross country program.

Ruppel transfered to Sachem East from Pennsylvania last summer.

“He was immediately accepted by his teammates because of an excellent work ethic and a positive attitude,” Sachem East coach John Horst said.

Ruppel was All-County in cross-country and was a key member of the indoor track team this winter.

“He is looking forward to having a successful spring track season and  NYIT is greatful that they are getting a young man of this caliber to run for them,” Horst said.

NYIT competes in the East Coast Conference and he will run the 5K.

This spring you can look forward to Ruppel running the mile, two-mile and 4×800 relay.

“It’s a nice opportunity that the school is giving me and it’s great to have all the weight off my shoulders and finally commit,” said Ruppel. “I’m looking forward to competing at the collegiate level.”
